(RTTNews) - Chile's trade surplus narrowed in August from the previous year. The trade surplus totaled US$530 million in August, smaller than US$1.06 billion surplus recorded in the previous year, data from the central bank showed on Tuesday. Economists had expected a trade surplus of US$1 billion.
Chile reported its smallest trade surplus since 2008 as a surging economy increases demand for imported machinery and consumer goods.
In Chile, there are continuing efforts to drill a shaft a half-mile underground to rescue 33 miners. They've now spent a month deprived of sunlight, fresh air and freedom. Reporter Annie Murphy talks to Linda Wertheimer about rescue efforts.
